On the 18th of September last the TC had a memorable meeting in Marseille

The work that had been carried out on updating our CMAS standards was unanimously approved. This approval means that work can now continue on re-drafting all our CMAS standards in the same format.

The work that has been carried out on the standards to date is:

• The Forward has been written which contains a brief introduction to the new standards and a table of contents of all our standards.
  
  
• Chapter 1 is completed which contains an explanation of the CMAS training and certification system. It also contains a glossary and explanation of common terms and an explanation of the CMAS Diver training philosophy. The concept of chapter 1 is to contain in one place all common items that appear in the standards so that the standards will be left short and precise.
  
  
• Chapter 2 has been started. This chapter will contain all the CMAS standards re-written in a common format i.e. Section 1. The aim of the training programme, 2. Classification, 3. Instructor and Assistant requirements, 4. Competencies of this particular grade  etc.
  
  
• Chapter 3 also started, will contain the required training programmes for all the standards in chapter two.

A special thanks to the members of working group who have put in all this work to this extremely high standard. The goal is to have this work completed in time for the next CMAS General Assembly.

Other items that were finished and got the seal of approval were standards for Altitude Diving, Wreck Diving, Trimix Light and Introduction to Cave Diving.

All of this work is on the agenda of the next BOD meeting where hopefully it will be approved and then issued for use by all of our federations.

A special thanks to the French Federation who were the perfect hosts and also organised some magnificent diving. They even gave us the photos, the first one they call “Presidents diving” and the second they called the “CMAS Dream Team”.
