The Kuwait Diving Team removed fishing nets stuck in the coral reefs of the southern Island of Garooh.
Head of the mission Lieut General Jassem Al-Nasrallah told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) the Kuwaiti diving team usually combs all coral reef areas in Kuwait, within the framework of THE marine protection program, especially the coral reefs.
Al-Nasrallah added that during the scanning of coral reefs around the Garooh Island, the team located several fishing nets entangled in the coral reefs, causing life threatening effects on marine life, therefore; the team decided to remove the nets, of 100 meters length and three meters width.
The team used air bags to lift the nets without damaging the coral reefs, he said, calling upon fishermen to protect the national marine environment, coral reefs, through refraining from the use of nets in coral reef areas.
