The Italian Homar Leuci (FIPSAS) broke the  Apnea World Record in Variable Weight with fins (VW) with the depth of -131 m in Soverato Bay, Italy on the 11th of September. With this achievement, the Italian athlete broke new ground for the CMAS Men's Variable Weight : no one has ever tried to reach this depth within the CMAS since the new VW rules were approved in 2011. Homar reached the declared depth descending upside down with the help of a guided ballast device: the last man to do this was Enzo Maiorca; the other athletes usually descend to the bottom with their head facing upwards.
On the 15th of September, Homar broke the record in Constant Weight With fins (CW) as well with - 93 meters, reopening the epic challenge between him and the Turkish Devrim Cenk Ulusoy (TSSF), who broke Homar's record from last year with -87 meters.

Both new records have been certified by the CMAS commissioners Neven Lukas (CW and VW), Jean Xifro (CW) and Cristiano Orlando (VW).

The final approval of both results will be granted after the conclusion of the anti-doping test results and the assessment of the Apnea Commission and the CMAS BoD.
