2nd CMAS World Championships of Underwater Video in Tenerife - Las Galletas

From October 7th, 2014 until October 12th, 2014 the 2. CMAS Underwater-World Championships for videographers will take place in Las Galletas / Tenerife.
The wild landscape on Tenerife with rugged mountains, numerous barrancos and picturesque streets will enchant and inspire participants from around the world.
Juergen Warnecke has visited the small town of Las Galletas in the south of Tenerife and tested the requirements for a CMAS World Championship.

Shimmering heat receives the visitor, when he leaves the Autopista del Sur in the direction of Galletas after a 15 minute taxi ride. It is the weather that also awaits us here in October of next year. Lots of sun, light wind, dust - sometimes as Calima from the Sahara - and the typical smells of earth and fish.
However, 20 minutes later, when the sea is already visible, the taxi drives in the suburb of El Fraile, which merges boundless to Las Galletas, the lively tourist town on the coast of Arona.
We see no skyscrapers and only a few urban office buildings, but more the architectural muddle, which makes this city especially attractive. The old town with straight streets and promenades invites you to stroll. The beach promenade "Avenia Simon Bolivar", where the Atlantic surges against the rocks, is the meeting point for all the hungry divers and locals. Numerous restaurants, from the pizzeria up to the good fish restaurant, line the street. You hear next to Spanish also Dutch, German and English.

One observes the surfers, who show to dozens their reckless wave rides, and the incoming and departing boats of the diving schools. The beach promenade ends at the entrance to Puerto, the Marina del Sur, a small harbour for sport- and fishing-boats. Here one can visit the fish market or the Playa on the land side, with little sand and many stones.

Behind the beach promenade virtually in the second row in the street "Maria del Carmen Garcia" and "Alfonso Maria Consuelo" numerous diving bases have settled. Here all diving activities start. One drives its complete equipment with small rubber-tired carts to the port, now the cavalier among the divers gets his chance when he helps his partner at the short distance to the pier.
However, the organisation of the Video-World Championships will set up a big tent directly at the harbour. Here will be set up a storage place for divers and then also the meeting place for all discussions.
The hotels here are classified by keys instead of stars. Four keys are hard to find, but numerous hotels and apartment hotels with close access to the water are easy to book:

The view from the marina to the mountains reveals a clear view to Mount Teide (3718 m), which invites with its Parque Nacional to visit. El Teide is Spain's highest mountain and is sometimes already covered with snow in October, which covers the peak like icing.
