On October the 1st and 2nd Italian athlete Michele Tomasi from the Italian Federation FIPSAS achieved a new world record to 55 meters and 70 meters in Constant weight with and without fins in fresh water respectively. The two performances took place in San Nicolò di Riva del Garda (Trento - Italy) on the Lake of Garda, the biggest Italian lake that is located in the northern part of the Country, under the supervision of two CMAS commissioners Neven Lukas (Croatia) and Pavel Kazankov (Russia). The two new world records will be officially accepted by the CMAS Board of Directors after obtaining satisfactory doping results.
Constant weight without fins is a new discipline in CMAS. Thus Tomasi's record is the first one achieved in this field. Untill now in constant weight apnea with fins in fresh water the CMAS recordman, French athlete Eric Charrier was the holder of the title. In 1997 he reached the depth of 55 meters in the lake of Sainte Croix du Verdon (France). Forteen years later the challenge in the lakes of the world is open again.
