Double Gold to Norway at the Underwater Rugby World Championships

In Helsinki, at the Finland 2011 9th CMAS Underwater Rugby World Championships the Norway triumphed in both the men and women's finals.

The four countries that went through to the medal round were Norway, Sweden, Germany and Finland. All four of the final matches, Gold - Silver and Bronze - 4th place, for both men and women took place on Saturday August 20, at Pirkkola Sports Park. In the men's final Norway defeated Germany 1 - 0 on goal by Bård Inge Pettersen, giving Norway its first ever top finish in World Championship play.

The Norwegian women's team, which last took Gold in 1995, beat Sweden by the same 1 - 0 margin on a goal by Amanda Barsten late in the second period.

The men's Bronze medal went to Sweden which defeated the host country team by 1 - 0 while the women's Bronze match between Germany and Finland ended 1 - 0 in favor of Germany.
